Thinking of entering the UK eCommerce Awards? Great decision! These awards celebrate the best in British online retail. But how do you make sure your entry stands out in a crowded field?

Whether you’re eyeing Best User Experience, eCommerce Startup of the Year, or the coveted UK eCommerce Website of the Year, here’s your checklist to making an award-worthy submission, minus the stress.

1. Choose the Right Categories

Pick the categories that really align with your strengths and give you the opportunity to showcase your expertise.

Category hot tip:
If you’re a new player with big energy, eCommerce Startup of the Year could be your moment. Nailing it with customer service? Go for User Experience of the Year. Selling sustainable products or delivering with sustainability at your heart? Don’t miss the Sustainability Award.

Full list of categories here.

2. Tell a Great Story

The judges are real people, not robots. They want to know and feel why your business rocks.

Start with a clear narrative:

  • What challenge were you solving?
  • What’s your unique angle?
  • What results have you achieved?

Back it up with numbers. But also share the heart behind the journey.

3. Show Your Results

You don’t need to be a billion-pound brand to win. But you do need to prove impact.

Include metrics like:

  • Conversion rates
  • Revenue growth
  • Customer satisfaction scores (think Trustpilot, NPS, etc.)
  • Return customer rates

Be honest. Be specific. Don’t say “massive growth” – say “135% YoY increase in revenue after launching our new site” or use real numbers which the judges love!

4. Use Visuals to Wow

Sometimes words aren’t enough, and this is where your supporting documentation becomes vital. Show off your site, UX design, or product with:

  • Screenshots
  • Links to Short videos
  • Customer testimonials (with permission)

This is especially powerful in categories including the Experience Awards or the Innovation and Technology Solution categories.

5. Don’t Submit at the Last Minute

We get it, eCommerce life is busy. But rushed entries rarely shine and are spotted by judges immediately. Set aside time to:

  • Read the criteria properly
  • Get sign-off from your clients and team
  • Proofread (twice!)

Money-saving tip: Submit well before the deadline so you’re not panicking with a formatting error at 11:58 PM. There are savings to be made by entering early. Visit our Entry Essentials page for full details.

6. Highlight What Makes You Different

Judges see lots of entries. Make it easy for them to remember you.

Ask yourself:

  • What are we doing that nobody else is?
  • How have we adapted, pivoted, or innovated?
  • Are we delighting customers in a way competitors aren’t?

That edge is your superpower, so use it.

7. Don’t Be Afraid to Show Personality

Yes, it’s a professional award. But your tone shows your enthusiasm and passion.

A little personality, humour, heart, or originality makes your entry more enjoyable to read. Just keep it clear and relevant.
