Trends and talent in demand:
The gap between eCommerce and retail sales is narrowing year on year. COVID and the resulting lockdowns saw the eCommerce sector’s growth skyrocket and whilst a drop off was always expected post lockdown the sector continues to thrive. It’s clear that whilst consumer buying habits were forcibly altered in favour of online shopping vs in-store, this is a permanent change, akin to working remotely. Both agencies and businesses with in-house eCommerce functions continue to seek candidates with industry-specific skills, for example Developers, Account & Project Managers with strong understanding of platforms such as Adobe Commerce, Shopify and BigCommerce are in hot demand. Additionally, it’s been a good year for agencies offering digital marketing services such as SEO, PPC and social media, and we’ve also seen a huge rise in demand for Amazon experts.
Remote working vs Hybrid vs In-Office:
We recently undertook an anonymous survey of 97 eCommerce professionals to better understand their working pattern preferences, analysing whether age, seniority, geographical location, and tech focus had any correlation.80% of eCommerce agencies continue to offer 100% remote working, and our internal data shows that most eCommerce businesses offer some form of hybrid working, in line with candidate desires.
Benefits in demand:
We recently engaged with 168 UK-based eCommerce development agencies to better understand their annual leave offerings and analysed how this compared to the wider market and candidate expectations.
Our next research project is around benefits offered by UK-based eCommerce businesses (agency and in-house functions) to analyse the time, cost and impact of each benefit and in what circumstances they are best deployed.
