Recent market research reveals intriguing trends in consumer behaviour. From January to July 2024, in-store shopping transactions rose by 11.3% compared to last year, indicating a resurgence in physical retail. Online shoppers, while fewer in number, tend to spend more per purchase, maintaining robust online sales figures.
Younger shoppers, especially Gen Z, are significantly impacting the market, with a 25.8% increase in transactions showcasing their growing purchasing power.
While these trends reveal exciting growth opportunities in retail, e-commerce also faces significant challenges, especially concerning return rates.
Return rates in e-commerce remain a critical issue, with online return rates being 170% higher than those in physical stores. This year alone, the return to purchase rate has surged by 25.7%, indicating that shoppers are returning a larger portion of their purchases.
